If you’re ever in Riverside near Palm Springs, this is a fascinating state park https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=649 There is also a somewhat non-fiction book about family from Ontario then Vancouver then south to Riverside to become citrus ranchers a 100 yr ago I just can’t think of the book name —- it’ll come to me at 3am :)
