The willow tree's in my yard seem to be dieing and im not sure what to do to stop it? Need some advice. Here are some pictures of the worst tree. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e90/DemonGT410/2014/IMG_0439_zpseebdaf20.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e90/DemonGT410/2014/IMG_0437_zpsa8b60055.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e90/DemonGT410/2014/IMG_0436_zps8742759a.jpg
Not much you can do; willows are short-lived and that one has decay, probably extensive, in the trunk. You could coppice it and let it regrow from the roots.
I was thinking of planting a cutting next spring further out in the yard and cutting this tree down. i had another willow farther back that was not doing well so i cut it down to ground level and its now growing a bunch of branches up. This is what you call "coppice" correct? There is another tree i may do this with. I think the previous owners of the house who planted the tree's planted them to deep? What i dont like is the tree's in the back are very close to my fence and the tree's farther forward seem to close to the house.
If i find branches on other tree's with splits should i wait till fall trimming or cut them off right away?
That would also work well. Yes Unlike most trees, this doesn't make any difference with willows - they are adapted to being buried deep by flood debris in the wild. They just grow a new root system. Yes, you certainly don't want willows too close to the house!
