    Hi there
I have a lovely "Satomi" perhaps 12-15 feet high. Unfortunately I planted it in the wrong location. I wasn't aware of how low branching it is. I would like to prune some of the lower branches completely and cut back some of the higher ones as it's impossible to use the path around the tree without smacking into a branch....but it is OH SO Beautiful when in it's "pink".
Any ideas....I am a total neophyte regarding pruning (when and how) I have heard these trees "bleed" easily.
    Help please
    Thanks

Pruning a tree that small up high enough to walk under, without stooping could involve cutting off pretty much half the branches. Heading back branches of long-established flowering dogwoods in an attractive way really not possible, because of how these are structured.

Thanks for that. How difficult would it be to move a tree of that size. It's only about 5 years that I've had it in that location. It's about 10feet tall and the trunk is about the girth of a baseball bat.
What does one do when they've made such a mistake in placement?
    total neophyte

    Change the access route?

    Thanks
That's exactly what I've been working on the last 3 days. .. Relocated the path (gravel) so that the branches are no longer a problem. I have learned to READ before planting as a result of this faux pas. It's a very pretty tree and seems to like where it's planted. Thanks for your advice.

I am glad for the satisfactory outcome.
