Hello, I am about to prune an established Ceanothus 'Ray Hartman' that's doing remarkably well in a garden in Portland, Or. It doesn't get much water, beyond winter rains, has good drainage on a slope. I am wondering about disease entering the pruning cuts since we have just entered a summer rainy period of a few days. I suspect Schizophyllum commune to be the organism causing the browning I've seen on heading/reduction cuts on some ceanothus plants. This one doesn't show any now. Need I be concerned about this fungus entering pruning cuts during a summer rain as opposed to a winter rain? Does temperature have much to do with its growth? And, is it even present in spore form at this time of year? Thank you, Julie
