I have a young Brazillian Pepper tree that is oozing sap out of many spots all along the trunks of the tree. The leaves are drying out and dying, one cluster at a time. Any ideas on what is wrong?
Geez. Is this the same 'Brazilian Pepper' that's classified as a 'invasive plant' here in FL? Those things take over our waterways, by overgrowing our much needed mangrove shorelines killing off our mangroves by not letting them get light to grow... Does yours shoot out the little red BBsized balls/flowers? ~LCA.
That's not a Schinus molle (the kind that produces little red seeds), some other Schinus, perhaps. I live in the tropics, and have never seen that happen to one. It looks very much like the damage of some borer-type beetle, which was common on maples and elms when I lived up North. My advice? Call a professional arborist and have him take a look at it. Ultimately you're going to need to do this anyway, even if you do ID the pest here. May as well catch it quick, before it kills the rest of your tree.
