I was reading a post by Mr. Shep where he explains, with seemingly convincing background information, that 'Senkaki' and 'Sango kaku' are really two different cultivars, when I realized that I had one plant that I had bought labelled 'Senkaki' from an old nursery (I had changed the label to Sango kaku, of course).
I went out to check and, in fact, as Mr. Shep suggests, the leaves are much smaller than the normal 'Sango kaku'.
The pics below show the Senkaki, (which is the ground since 2002 and shows brown tips), together with a 'Sango kaku' (coming from Esveld) which is still in a pot. The difference in leaf size is significant. I do not know if this confirms anything since my grafted Senkaki could just come from a red bark seedling which happened to have tiny leaves.
In addition all standard references, including Nurseries descriptions, claim both are the same.
Anybody has additional examples or information?

Haven't noticed seeing a maple with a leaf that seems that small with that shape Gomero. The seed near the lower left side looks as if it may be from the small leaf plant , held above the leaves, or is it from the larger leaved maple ?
