Does anyone know a good time to collect samaras? Is there any info on planting the samaras- stratification, type of media, etc? Any info and references would be helpful. Thanks a bunch!!

There's a thread called "Maple seeds won't sprout" at the top of this (The Genus Acer) forum with some good info. here - http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=11439

Also in J.D. Vertrees book Japanese Maples, 3rd ed. there's a section on growing trees from seed.

And if you decide to try to grow some, good luck! :-)

    whisk4ey,

Thanks for those instructions. Very nice. Could you tell me who your friend is in Tennessee that grows the seedlings? I'm looking for some rootstock for grafting, and I live in TN.

    Thanks!

K4 ... the friend mentioned is a friend of Brad Elmores, not mine. I haven't seen Elmore about here for some considerable time. Maybe something has happened to him? Anybody know?

    Hi,
I emailed Elmore a couple weeks ago and have not heard anything. Not sure if he just quit using this forum.

    K4,
I have ordered my acer palmatum rootstock from Heritage Seedlings. There price for them vary depending on the amount of your order.
