Ok, soooo what's the problem with these beautiful specimens:

First noticed on/about September 20, 2010 rust-brown/dying branches close to the Trunk (please see attached)... DSCF3952.jpg . This could be noticed on all 13 plants to varying degrees of thickness depending on the density of the plant growth. The denser the plant, the denser the browning. The plant with the most browning is the one attached.

I would like to find out what this could be: Is it a disease/parasite? Could it be a natural growth process?...

Everything I've read online says that these branches are dead, or soon will be and should be pruned away promptly---and so I have done just that.

Yes, the plants again look great with the rust-brown coloring pruned away; but is there anything else I can or should be doing to help??

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
