This is a stupid question: could someone show a picture of rush and also horsetails? My camera is on the fritz and I am not able to do so...the plant I am trying to identify has very feathery leaves, very invasive route system about 8-10 inches tall in growth, comes up in the spring, lasts until the end of fall (in the northeast Of USA). Leaves come from one verticle branch with lengthwise ridges with sets of eleven pine needle-like leaves radiating out of the branch going around the circumference of the branch with sets of leaves every inch or so up the branch with fewer leaves radiating out towards the top. Leaves are over eight inches long with also length-wise ridges and some seem to have a feather of another "leaf" or two coming off the main leaf closer to the end of the main leaf, coming off seperately like a stem. The plant is light yellowish-green in color. Someone told me this was horsetails? Although I do not know. If someone could help me out, thank you.
Pics of (left) a typical rush (Soft Rush Juncus effusus), and (right) a typical horsetail (Field Horsetail Equisetum arvense). Yours sounds much more like a horsetail from your description. (both pics below released CC-BY-SA license from wikimedia commons)
