I am living in Thailand and have just purchased land, I would like to know what would be the best to grow for future investment Rubber trees or Palm oil trees, I will retire in 8 years and will look after my investment myself. Any info welcome. Thanks Chris
Assuming it isn't original forest on the site currently, then the best advice I can give is to talk with whatever agricultural ministry is present in the country, along with whatever sustainable farming groups you can find. This looks like a great lead: Sustainable Food Production in Thailand from the Food & Fertilizer Technology Center. Also, read Is Sustainable Agriculture in Thailand Feasible? (PDF)
Thialand has enough rubber and palm oil plantations why not try raising endangered plant speices or pigmy elephants also threatened by the palm oil industry's unchecked deforestation of its natural forests.
There is a world shortage of Rubber and when the oil runs out I am sure clean bio diesel will be fine in your car!.
