Hey everyone. New member here, hope I'm posting in the right section.

Finally decided to plant some trees in my back yard and needed some advice.

I found a few rose of Sharon trees for sale at a nursery near by (in Ontario). They were shipped from BC. I'm extremely inclined to buy three of them ($320.00 each), they're about 10-12 feet tall.

There's just one concern that I have... There seems to be a lot of moss on the trees. I'll post some pictures. I'm worried that it's hurtful for the trees. I'm aware that Ontario is far less humid than BC, the sales representative said the miss should fall off.

Please tell me your thoughts! Thanks.

    A close up

Lastly the tree as a whole:

The moss isn't an indicator of poor plant health, if that is your concern. It is harmless to the tree, as well. I suspect the rep is correct that the moss will die off -- that species isn't native to Ontario.

thanks Daniel. So I shouldn't be concerned with the moss, that's great to hear. Do you know what species of moss that is? Not sure if it is a lichen or not...

Also, Daniel do you have any care advice for this tree?

Others will have to comment re: tree advice. But the main moss species appears to be Orthotrichum lyellii. There are also some lichens in the close-up photo, perhaps one of them is a Parmelia. The lichens are similarly neutral.
