    hibiscus bud drop

Susanna--I had a similar conversation about my herbaceous hibiscus (moscheutos) which has dropped its buds for a couple summers now. Turns out the hibiscus tribe are real water lovers, swamp plants in the case of my type.

I would guess that the very dry, hot summer has stressed the bush to the point of dropping it's buds...now that we've had some substantial rain here you should see it perk up tho you've missed some of the best summer flowering up till now...

The rose of sharon sure has become more obvious in the greater Van. area last several years, luckily at a time when we've been getting very hot summers which I understand they love. Just have to watch the water supply around here I would think...
