I have 1 year old apple whips and I'm seeing growth out of the rootstock. Is this a common occurence?

    Thanks

Yes it is very common, however, if your tree is a grafted tree, and it probably is, the whips will not be the same good tasting variety as your tree. The whips will be the variety of the rootstock that your tree was grafted upon. You can dig one up carefully, with some of the roots still attached, if you want additional rootstock for grafting, otherwise just cut them out. - Millet (1,380-)
