rhododendron look alike

    Visiting friends in Nanaimo and "helping" to transplant rhododenrons, they informed me I had dug up ???? - rhododendron look alike. Does anyone know the botanical name of this look-alike?

    No, didn't get a photo. The plants looked just like young rhododendrons but my friend said they were false something or other.

    Perhaps Menziesia ferruginea aka false azalea?
