My Rhodo's leaves are breaking just outside where they join the branch. From the number and locations I don't believe it is mechanical. Any ideas?
If your location is close to Vancouver, then there was pretty windy last Sunday. Hence that could easily be mechanical damage. I started to shuffle my avocado for daily sun bath outdoors, and on Thursday one leaf broke off because of wind, despite wind here was more than two times weaker (up to 22 km/h) than at your place on last Sunday (up to 49 km/h).
