Requesting Help: Trying to Identify this Plant (picture)

    This plant was photographed / found in San Diego. Although we have the habit of transfering/transplanting from foreign countries with an average of about 80% being alien to our natural San Diegan environment.

    Thanks. I believe you are on to something although there are 3000 species in that family! We are hoping to narrow it down so we can buy some and bring some more of this plants inherent beauty to the area.

    Yep, there are a lot of 'em. Was thinking of Pitcairnia...found this interesting list:

    Thanks for the input. I began glancing at that series of photos (not all of them) but I am not skilled in identifying plants. I'm just a regular Joe named Chris who hopes there are people out there more knowledgeable than he is. Its usually the case anyways =) I appreciate the help, alas I am still searching if anyone can grant me some further assistance/delve deep into their reserves of plant knowledge.
