Well, I have a coleus, and i decided to cut a couple of branches off to repot them I'v really never done this before but are the leafs supppose to die? they look very flimsy now, and sad :( or are they dieing because its re rooting? any helpful advice to help them get going would be appreciated :D
Are you saying you cut off a few stems to root them and get new plants? Then no, the leaves should not die. When you take stems for cuttings, they can no longer get water from their roots, so it is necessary to keep the cuttings moist until new roots form sufficiently to provide water for the leaves. Some people use misting systems or start plants in water. I find the easiest method at home is to place the cut stems in a moist sterile media (a mix of sand, vermicullite, peat, whatever) in small pots and then place the pots in sealed plastic bags. Keep them out of direct sunlight. This works well for leafy plants. Coleus are usually very easy to propagate from cuttings. All plants are different, some are difficult and some will simply never root. Often rooting hormones are used to help the process. Cactus and succulent plants need a different method.
