My poor lucky bamboo that I have had for a couple of years isn't doing too well. Its leaves are yellow and dried though the stems look okay. I think it is from my forgetting once or twice to top up the water (bad, I know). I also think it isn't getting enough light. After doing some reading on this excellent forum and elsewhere, I have decided to move it into a bigger pot with soil and relocate it to a brighter location (indirect light, I know), but I have a few questions about the process. 1. What kind of soil should I use? I understand that lucky bamboo is a bog plant so it likes wet conditions (hence being able to survive in just water and rocks) but I have also read that I should get a good draining soil for it. Those two things sound opposite to me. Not sure what is right. 2. Should I gradually transition the plant by adding soil to the water bit by bit? I have heard of people transplanting them and then the plant dying because its roots can't handle the soil. I am planning on cleaning the container out (there is some algae) and maybe trimming the roots up. (Or should I leave the roots alone?) If I need to transition it, I plan to clean the stones out first, put it back in a bigger pot with just the stones and water, then gradually add soil and then eventually fully repot it in soil. How long should that process take to keep the poor thing from dying? It's fought through my well-meaning but inadequate care this long...I don't want to kill it now! 3. Almost all the leaves are yellow. I have read that I can pull them off and new ones will grow but I'm paranoid that plucking the whole thing will kill it...though I'm guessing yellow leaves aren't doing much for the plant now anyway. To pluck or not to pluck? Sorry for the long winded post and thanks in advance!
