I have a calamondin that is about 2 ft tall in a small pot, and the roots I've noticed are coming out the drainage holes in the bottom. I want to repot this safely but I'm not sure how. The only soil I have is a tropical mix soil which (I didn't notice until I got it home) has slow release fertilizer in it that is supposed to last up to 9 months. Will this be bad for the calamondin trees sensitive roots? Should I mix some regular plain potting soil in with it? Or is it ok to use alone?
I'd recommend Orchid mix or other highly aerated blend. http://www.colostate.edu/Dept/CoopExt/4dmg/Plants/pottmix.htm
