hi me again, this time with a peace lily :)

Well the lily needs a repot too as I checked the roots and its prety much rootbound and a lot of overcrowding in the pot. (why do garden centres sell plants in this condition)

Regarding the roots of the plant. What is the best method to get rid of the old soil in and around the root system without damaging the tiny roots when I re plant it? Just give it a gentle tap to knock most of the soil off and then open the roots up by hand? leave the roots as they are and just replant with new soil around it? dunk the roots in water to wash the soil off??

    any help appreciated.

You'll want the roots on the snug side, helps to keep them from rotting.

After taking the root-ball out of the pot, pull away or tap off all the lose soil around the outside of the root mass, loosen the roots slightly with your fingers, especally if they are growing in circle. Re-pot to the next size up giving the root-ball an inch or two of growing room.
