I have a sw facing solarium that is in desperate need of a large skinny plant. Ceiling is 90 inches high but bushy part should be no more than about 24 inches wide at table height (since a small dining table is included in space.)

Can anyone suggest sources in Vancouver for slightly off-beat large plants? There used to be a large elephant foot palm in this location but he has moved on-- after 25 years!

While I'd like some "truck interest", that usually means a fig with the three braided stems.

Mostly, I just need sources for large plants. Help!

You could try growing a vigorous vine like a pothos or bouganvillia up a columnar support to creat a relatively narrow but lush column of greenery. The column could be cylindrical or square in cross section or you could use a tall narrow 'teepee' type as is sometimes sold for supporting clematis in pots. With the right vine the plant could easily be kept to about 15"-20" across and could even be trained horizontally one it approached the ceiling if you liked.

Musa 'Super Dwarf Cavendish' is also a neat idea - when it's full grown (about 5' tall) the stem is an attractive pink stripey sort of thing, and the leaves create an attractive display, especially since it tends to be bunchy rather than spreading. The added bonus is that it fruits!

Thank you so much for the suggestion. I just wish I could locate the plant you suggested in Vancouver, Canada! I've noted the name and will see what I can find.
    Again, my thanks....
