    Howdy, first post here !

This year has been designated as the year to rejuvenate our lawn - our kids are gonna be out there in force this year more than any in the past.

We have lived here only two years ( the house is 18 yrs old )

The lawn has issues that change in intensity throughout the year, so I will list them:

cedar hedges or house on most sides
    shade
clay soil - does not drain well
    moss
    crabgrass
clover or some other insidious weed with yellow flower
    thatch

I "think" my best approach ( short of removing lawn and reseeding or sodding ) would be:

    dethatch/powerake up thatch and moss
    chemical moss killer
    aerate and remove plug material
    pre-emergant weedkiller
    time release fertilizer
sand/compost mix raked in over top

Any questions, comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

dethatch/powerake up thatch and moss - yes
chemical moss killer - before dethatch and demoss
aerate and remove plug material - yes after dethatch and demoss
pre-emergant weedkiller - no. if necessary use a selective herbicide (killex etc)
    time release fertilizer - sure.
sand/compost mix raked in over top - sure

OVERSEED. add millions more grass blades by overseeding too.
