Friends have several decades-old yucca plants in their new garden that they would like to remove. They have been told that it would require a back hoe to dig up all the roots and wonder if there are any alternatives. If all leaves were removed as they emerge, any idea how many years would it take for the plant to die?

One plant is growing in an area where they hope to make a patio with concrete pavers but are worried that it may damaged.

Isn’t yucca a deep tap root?

I have removed them years ago fr a diff coast home garden - and I never saw sign of it again

    On thé other hand -
A change of heart about yucca

ÉDIT - before digging deep by hand or machine in the garden one must ensure that there are NO buried underground utilities like gas or water or power etc
