reluctant Alice

    Last fall I planted A. pectinatum 'Alice.' It is in a sheltered spot that gets maybe a couple of hours of light per day.

    The plant leafed out well, and has shown good growth. It has, BTW very showy striped bark, much lighter than the nearby 'Sirene.' Seems very happy generally, but not a sign of variegation... The leaves come out a sort of dark mottled red, then fade to a dullish green. The plant is pretty large, perhaps 180 cm, but obviously reasonably young.

    What think you growers of Alice(s)? Not enough light? Maybe just needs more time in the ground? Special 'variegation inducing' fertilizer pellets? :)

    same with my Alice which I checked because of this thread. this is my first year with
    Alice. I have many variegates many of which reliably variegate year after year, but
    some of which skip a year which may be the case sadly with our Alice's.
