I have a Black Amber Plum tree in the Vancouver, Canada area. We can't find any pollination trees for my Black Amber Plum. Does anyone have a reference for which Japanese plum cultivars can cross-pollinate with a Black Amber Plum?
This has a pollination table in which 'Blackamber' appears. Japanese Plum Pollination 132874.pdf (ucanr.edu)
Thank you, Ron, for your reply. I did check the Japanese Plum Pollination table and brought it to Garden Works in Burnaby, BC, Canada. However, they said there are no Amber, Autumn Rosa, Durdo, Santa Rose, or Wickson Japanese plum trees available in the Vancouver area. They only have Beauty, Methley, Satsuma, and Shiro Japanese plum trees that are easy to find in the Vancouver area. Additionally, they don't know if their trees can cross-pollinate with the Japanese Black Amber plum tree or not.
Whiffletree Farm & Nursery in Ontario has Santa Rosa plum trees, both orchard grade (smaller size) and regular in stock. With shipping costs added, their prices are similar to GardenWorks prices. However, I can't recommend Santa Rosa for fruit production; it usually produces very little fruit for me. I keep it alive, hoping that Global Warming will eventually help; but I can remember only two decent crops from it in about 30 years. Santa Rosa is also a good pollinator for some pluot trees, which Whiffletree also carries.
