I have an issue with a root from one of my redwood trees, and I need to know what I can do about it. I have two Pacific Coast Redwoods in my backyard. A large root from one of them has grown underneath the concrete pad that is the mount for our swimming pool filter. It has lifted the pad and the filter now tilts forward about ten degrees. I have two options as I see it to fix the problem: 1. Cut out that portion of that root (it is about fifteen feet from the base of the tree); 2. Move the filter, which also entails moving the piping, two pumps, and the electrical connections that go with it. The tree itself is presently about forty feet tall, about twenty inches thick at the base, and very healthy. Will it harm the tree to cut that one root away from underneath the pool filter? Thanks!
