I'm a Master Gardener in SW Washington State. A client brought in a "weed" that has started popping up in his planting beds. He just bought the house last year and didn't see any evidence of plants growing there at that time.

The leaves are opposite. The underside of the leaves is slightly hairy. The stem is reddish, and not hairy. He says they grow straight up, and the sample he brought in is about 18 inches long. Most of the ones in his beds are taller. No flower yet.

Any ideas on this one?? Thanks for your input!

First thought, it looks like a honeysuckle, Lonicera.
