This gorgeous bright orange/red polypore is almost impossible to get a good photo with my camera.......it's such a deep vibrant color that it won't focus correctly...
The images I'm posting are of ones that I found on a branch last summer...brought home...and are regrowing in my garden now. They seem to grow IN the wood and pop out to form the fans.....very dry and slightly 'furry' on the top-sides.
The closest ID I've been able to find was the Cinnabar-red polypore.......but these are almost flat compaired to the images I've seen....I've not taken a spore sample...sorry
Found in NE Kansas woods with Oak, Ash, PawPaw, Maple, Cottonwood.....

thanx! sadly the photos really STILL don't do them credit...they're are incredibly vibrant! i've only a pocket camera and it won't register all the color-range values that these actually hold.
can't wait for an ID on these!

While there, did it look similar to this sulfur shelf below?

    Almost forgot.

If focus is hard - and I find it very hard for white fungus - use your hand.

Put you hand at the same distance, focus on it by depressing half way (if your camera works that way), then pull your hand back and take the image.

Works for me most of the time.

Not at all? but WOW that's a great image!
This is another photo of what they usually look like 'in general' when I come across them...An extremely poor image THERE but u can also see where they are 'bursting' thru the bark.
