We live close to a forested area where there must be a major red headed ant colony.
This year they seem to be everywhere and we suspect they are living underneath some concrete steps.
Before we try to get rid of them...are they harmful to our plants or helpful?
I have noticed my heucheras and tiarellas are looking chewed..
    Thanks, Jane

Thatch ants may help control forest pests so probably best to leave alone if you can. Damage to heucheras etc. liable to be weevils.
