hello, i have two small red dragon japanese maples in containers and live in georgia. this past month we had really cold weather so i moved them inside. well now they are putting out new leaves(which isn't a bad problem, ill just wait till the themp outside is safe to move them), my question is why are the new leaves bright green? i thought the red dragons had red leafs. Is it because the days are still short and there isnt enough sunlight??maybe they aren't really red dragons?? any help would be great!

Hi straightline, probably just the light exposure, as you thought. Most red Japanese maples will turn green if they don't get enough light. Wait and see what colour they are when you get them outside for a while later in the spring.

Your Red Dragon needs sunlight for the leaves to turn red. I wouldn't keep your maples inside as the dry air is likely to be harder on them than the cold. It's OK to bring them into your garage, or inside overnight on very cold days, but they should be able to handle temperatures down to the low 20s or upper teens with no problems.
