    Hi-

I just planted an acer palmatum dissectum "Red Dragon" in a container today. The Red Dragon looks absolutely stunning and I want to make sure I do everything right to make this tree thrive. I understand it's an extremely slow grower, I just want to keep it happy. It's a low graft but I think it's staked up because there's an upright central trunk. The trunk is about 1-1/4" thick in diameter. It receives full morning sun and shade in the afternoon around 1pm.

The container is about twice the size of the 15 gallon it originally came in. Today I transferred the tree to the container w/ the burlap bag and filled the entire thing up with acid planting mix, the organic ones ideal for azaleas, camellias, and rhodys. No fertilizer or anything and then I just watered the entire thing until it began to drain out from the bottom. There is a large hole for drainage on the bottom of the container around 4" in diameter and I put some broken clay pot pieces there to prevent the planting mix from exiting.

I don't really have a question, I just want to make sure I am doing this right. I am a newbie to planting a. palmatums in a container. I have a bloodgood and a beni-kawa in the ground and they are doing very well. I just want to make sure this Red Dragon in the container will thrive as well.

Also, I live in Southern California and I was wondering if I should start deep root watering every other day as the summer months are approaching? Thanks.

    Hien.

    Everything sopunds fine to me
I think I would water about twice a week. The soil should be moist and not wet.
