    Good Day All,

If anyone has pictures of "freshly" sprouted Japanese Red Maples, I would very much appreciate your posting them!
I have been attempting to grow from seed but am unsure if I am patiently raising weeds.

Sorry but I don't have any pics of newly germinated maples, but here is a pic of some small seedlings that sprouted in midsummer below.

When the seeds first germinate, you will see a pair of cotyledons. These leaves are rounded rectangular shaped and about 1 inch long by an eighth of an inch (approximate) for japanese maples and several other maple species. Soon after these emerge the "normal" pair of leaves emerge. The picture shows a few pairs of "normal" leaves.

Note that I say "normal" because there is great variability in leaf shape for acer palmatum and these young leaves don't necessarily represent the mature leaf shape or color that you can expect in the future.
