The recent outages are due to power failures on the UBC Campus. No one is being particularly forthcoming as to what is causing the outages (the weather hasn't been that stormy).

Despite power being restored last night local time, it required someone to physically revive the server early this morning, hence the most recent 13 hour downtime.

Just an FYI, we did receive word this morning of why the two outages occurred:

[The first] disruption was the result of a protective relay tripping due to a high current load. This is the first time this situation has occurred.

The second had to do with a pole top fire that resulted in the electricity company having to isolate the power lines coming in to campus.

i'd wondered what was wrong as i've never had a problem with this site - ever!

hope the fire was brought under control before anyone was injured!
