I was exploring the Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver and find a large plant with giant leaves. Found near the base (10 meters away) of the small water fall. Looks like Giant Rhubarb with tall seed pods?? Leaves up to a meter across, thick yet delicate. How to identify this plant with such a poor description?

    Any ideas?

    Thank you!!

They have two types of large Gunnera at VanDusen: G. manicata and G. tinctoria. Here's a thread with photos, particularly posting #36 with photos from VanDusen. G. manicata is the larger one, with larger inflorescences.

Yes the plant is Gunnera Manicata. Have seen this one and a few others over the years never thought to try to plant any around my garden. I have relatively the same weather as Vancouver Canada where the plant I see was growing, so i think i could have success to grow here at my home.

Now wondering where to get seed or seedlings and how to plant and maintain. My biggest difficulty is all the deer passing by, they eat EVERYTHING!!
