    Hello,

This is my first post to this site. I am a Magnolia tree lover. I went to college and spent some time in Southern VA and my campus was covered with enourmous Magnolias, since then I have moved to South NJ (Philadelphia) and have one Magnolia growing in my backyard. I'm not quite sure which kind of Magnolia it is.

My question is this. I was just given as a gift a Magnolia tree sprout from a company that does historic trees. It is a Magnolia from Graceland. It is a Magnolia grandiflora.

I want to make sure that the climate is right and that the tree doesent die over the winter, what kinds of precautions should I take to make sure that this tree grows strong and the northern climate doesent hurt it?

    Thanks in advance

The commonly sold 'Edith Boque' cultivar was selected from a tree growing in Montclair, NJ. Plant yours against a warm wall, if possible.
