My mother has an orchid and sometime after blooming, near the end of the flower stem a set of leaves have come out. Is this a new plant and what does one do about it....should it be planted or just left alone.
Plant it! It's a keiki (orchid pup) - the orchid's way of propagating without seed. Cut the stem about 1" below where you see the leaves and roots of the baby, and plant it in a separate pot of orchid medium.
