I want to plant a hedge with Pyramid Cedars. The variety I've been told to plant are the Swag - type Pyramid - have I got the right word or does anyone know what kind that is?

thuja occ. Smaragd is what I think you are after. Pyramid cedar usually refers to the pyramidalys variety, aka brandon cedar.

the smaragd is generally tighter growth, emerald green in color (hence the name smaragd which is apparently Danish for emerald green) and pointed at the top unless sheared.

Thank you. In your opinion, would this be the best tree for a hedge that I want the trees to be individual rather than growing together and forming a hedge?

I would suggest its a good choice. more expensive but if its shady you could consider a columnar Yew.
