    Hi Everyone,

Just this year moved into a bungalow with established cottage garden. There is a large flowering plant about 72" high with thick stems, almost like bamboo, with drooping purple and white flowers. No one seems to know what it is. As I am planning alterations to the garden, I felt I should find out before its dug up ! Here is a pic of stems and flowers & leaves. Any help would be much appreciated. I am in North Somerset. South West UK.

Common Name Himalayan Honey suckle. Leycesteria Formosa. Beautiful Plant. Will self seed but sparingly. Can be pruned or cut back severely to keep it in control. barb

Yep, Leycesteria formosa. Very common in UK gardens; native to the Himalaya.
