Wow, looks like purple is the colour of the day. This plant is growing, hugely, in my garden and although it looks a bit familiar I can't place it at all. It's about 5 feet tall, and the flowers smell faintly of jasmine or tea. The fruits are small and remind me of peppers, but the flowers are so at odds with this that it's thrown me for a loop.

If it helps, I'm in southern Ecuador.

That sure looks like it, now that I've had time to search on it. Thanks!

In Panama we call this "today, tomorrow and yesterday". It has several shades of purple to white flowers on the same plant. Common hedge plant as it blooms year-round and at sea-level as well as high altitude. Tropical.

And here I've found we call it Peruvian Jasmine.

(And of course it's tropical - I'm in Ecuador.)

I'm not sure about sources, but I've got some info Here at the Blog (at the bottom.)

I've seen it grown in containers here, to contain it (no pun intended, it'll run if it's in the ground) and it seems to do just fine. Like most of the Solanales, it's weedy and tough.

In the States, it's most likely going to be called Yesterday Today and Tomorrow.

And I'm not sure if I mentioned it, but the flowers smell quite strongly of Jasmine Tea for the first three days of blooming.

And Joc, you'll be happy to hear this. It's most probably available in the states, since people on Dave's Garden have it for trade.
