We planted a purple princess plant last year and as of Sept. 25th it has not
yet bloomed. It looks as if it will bloom any day now. The problem
is it has looked that way for couple of weeks now. We are on the Northern Coast
and I do however see them in bloom around town and years past thru winter when it has been mild. I am just anxious to see ours bloom. Why does it take so long to flower for the first time? The plant has grown in height alot. It looks healthy it
just has not bloomed. The other questions is Do deer like it? We try to plant things
the deer will leave alone and since it has the fuzzy leave I was hopeful they will
    leave it alone.

There are a few plants that have the name purple princess (as a cultivar name). Do you have a scientific name or photograph?

    Maybe Aeonium arboreum "Zwartkop"?

Janet--my tibouchinas are also just trying to flower now...this is quite annoying! The foliage is attractive, but I sure would like a longer flowering season.

At least where you are you have a chance of flowers thru the winter...ours will be shut down by frost in another month or so.

Like you say, other plants seem to be flowering before mine, wish I knew some secret...
