I have the purple heart plant which I usually put in a large pot but it can be spread throughout the garden simply by breaking off a branch and sticking it in the ground. I have had the same plant for 7 years. Sometimes I have as many of 10 individual plantings of it growing in a season. It is not winter hardy in IL however.
