purple flowers, green velvet pods

    can someone please help !!! my mother moved recently, and found a potted plant. it blooms purple flowers, and has little green velvet pods. now that the weather is cooling up, it is starting to die. i am wondering what it is, and if it should be brought in out of the cold. any suggestions ????

    My first thought was wisteria, but no way. Hmm...how big is the pot?
    Are we talkin' royal purple, lavender, solid color...is it a vine, shrub, house plant? what do its leaves look like?
    OK, enough speculation till we get visual data!
