This plant just showed up in my garden in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Last year it was just the thick rubbery leaves and I left them. This morning after a rain I was looking and there is a beautiful tiny 1 inch flower. The whole plant is the size of a large hand. The leaves are 1 1/2 inches wide. There are a couple more flowers starting. Any help with ID would be appreciated. Thanks

Bloody Crane's-bill Geranium sanguineum or close relative.

Thanks so much Michael. I must admit I was a little sad that it was 'bloody' as I figured it would be terribly invasive. After searching I found Geranium sanguineum is otherwise known as Bloody Cranesville. We had a good laugh over that. I really think it is a lovely plant and do have a place for it to run rampant. Thanks again. Donna

The name (both English and scientific; "sanguineum" = blood-coloured) refers to the flower colour, redder than other Geranium species native in N Europe.
