Help me! im in dire straits
I have a very nice pumpkin vine growing
Its apx 6feet long with another 1.5foot long vine protruding from the
center of the main vine's shoot.

I have been having about 4/5 male flowers come up and die before opening
looking at "ALL" the flowers in production I cannot readily identify any female
flowers for the near future, this has not happened to me before.

It is already AUG 5th and pumpkins should already be started
Ive managed to save a bit of pollin in an airtight glass jar

but ive been told its near impossible to save viable pollin from pumpkin

    a) will females eventually come?
    b) zone 5, is it already too late to get pumpkins goin when the females do appear?
    c) is it common to have no females in the beginning?

and lastly how many males to females should there be

ive counted about 30-35 males and 0 female flowers

    THX!

It sounds to me (barring any updates to your situation) that you've a pumpkin that has some sort of genetic issue. I wouldn't expect to have harvestable pumpkins if you've not had any female flowers so far. Sorry.

    Getting some females now
And after pollination the pumpkin swells a bit, gets lighter and falls off.
Something wrong with the vine? PS: its HUGE! lol 1 vine is half my yard
this ok or should i cut it back some?

    About pumpkin vine pollination

Recently I was told that pumpkin vines
require the pollin from a different vine.
The male flowers cannot pollinate the female flowers
    on the same vine.

    Q) Is this true?

If it is i probably wont be getting any pumpkins this year
Ive been hand pollinating the females
    - of the same vine -
since the pollin of this fruit
is too heavy / sticky for wind travel and theres little to no bees/butterflies
in the area (was last year, dunno what happened)

the female flowers look ok, wilt off etc as they should but the fruit
still remaines unchanged (the first one fell off 4 days ago for no reason flower+ fruit)

any help/advice would be great thanks

The pumpkins falling off sounds like a pollination issue; have a read through Pumpkin Crop Management from Ohio State Ag Extension

I too have incredible vines but no pumpkins. It's Sept 23 and not one pumpkin. I've heard it's hard to grow pumpkins in Arizona. I just tore out one of my vines because it was consuming 1/3 of my garden. That's too much productive space for something not putting out any pumpkins.
