I recently moved to a new home and the previous owner let 2 white pines develop
twin leaders. The one is about 16-18 feet tall with the twin leaders starting at about 8-9 feet, they are about 3" each in diameter. The other is smaller approx 10-12 feet tall with the twin leaders starting at about 7 feet.- Their diameters are about 1.5-2". Can I prune these back or will it be too stressfull on the pine? If I leave them alone what is the probability of an eventual split killing the tree? Please help

Wait til Nov. to do it - now is a really bad time of year (and the trees thank you for asking first, cutting later!).
