Earlier I posted a photo of an unknown evergreen shrub and many people identified it as Trochodendron aralioides.

Now I need to know how to prune it! Everything I have found on-line says not to prune them, but the owner has pruned it every spring in the past. She does not like it to get "leggy".

I am wondering if anybody else has pruned theirs, could share techniques, and if spring is the best time to prune?

    Any info is appreciated.

    Thanks.

Usually seen as taller, more open plants whose main source of interest is their natural habit, rather than the low dense forms shown in your picture.

"There is no need for any pruning. In fact, the head of foliage that terminates each branchlet is quite large, making it very difficult to do so effectively, even if it is necessary to reduce size. The leading growths should never be pruned."
