I have a pretty good idea of how to do basic pruning of tree wisterias. However, after years of pruning annually, I find that some of the branches have developed so-called "brooms" - where multiple smaller branches have grown off of the end of a larger one. My question is: Should I prune back far enough on the cane so these "brooms" are removed? Or should I just trim most of the offshoots from the "broom" back to where they join the larger branch?
