    Hi;

    I have a Colmanara Wildcat, an Oncidium hybrid, that is finished flowering. The flower stem is drying and the flowers while still attached are also weakening. My question is do you prune this stem the same as a phalaenopsis or do you cut the stem back to the pseudobulbs?

    I cut mine back to the pseudobulb - but I am not an expert.

    Did it grow a new stalk and flower? A am not familiar with this particular orchid but I am told it will flower 3 or 4 times a year.

    Mine seems to flower once a year in February - at least it has for the last two years.

    All my Oncidiums (and related allies) flower once per growth (although they may produce more than one inflorescense per growth). A healthy Onc. may produce multiple growths per year and therefore multiple flowerings. After flowers are done remove entire spent stalk mainly for aesthetics but also for housekeeping (prevent fungal infections).
