Please help! I have been away this winter and am just now back. My question is........... Is it too late (April 4,2014) to prune/cut back my autumn clematis, silver lace vine, roses (rose leaves look diseased with black spots?) and generally anything else that now has new growth. Everything is messy and neglected with last years old and dead growth tangled up in the new stuff. I am a complete neophyte but would like to make an effort to improve and learn. All suggestions and ideas will be greatly welcome! Thanks
I would try to trim away any dead or diseased material. Trash or destroy the diseased parts. Compost the rest. You want to try not to damage the new growth, but losing a bit of it probably won't hurt the plants.
