two years ago my concord grapes got a disease (white infections that turned the fruit into raisin like berries). Since then my vines have not produced fruit. Before that my vine produced tons of fruit and was beautiful. I knew nothing about the plant when I purchased my land, therfore I did not know that I had to prune it. How do I prune my vine? Also, with the disease that it got will it keep it from produing fruit in future years or is it all because I have not been pruning it? Thank you in advance for all help. Rebecca
It could be Botrytis, a common pathogen. It should have no long lasting effect on the vine, though it's easy enough to get it all over again. Prune vigorously; grapes fruit on the current year's growth only. If late season conditions are wet or dull, prune the canopy (leaves) to open it up somewhat. This may make botrytis less likely, similarly downy mildew. Ralph
